PENANG, June 10 (Bernama) -- The Indonesian dragon boating team won the international open category race at the 28th Penang International Dragon Boating Festival at the Teluk Bahang Dam here.
The team clocked 2 minutes and 3 seconds to capture the Yang Dipertua Negeri Trophy.
Pacific West A faced a strong challenge from the Putrajaya Youth and Sports Ministry team but succeeded in edging them by a second to emerge as the runners-up in a time of 2'08s.
Indonesia also won the mixed event in 2'41s while Bangkok A and B were second and third respectively in 2'44s and 2'46s.
A total 2,130 participants involving 75 local and 44 foreign teams from Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, Thailand, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, South Africa, Netherlands, Germany, Dubai, Vietnam and China took part in the three-day event, which ended today.
Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas gave away the prizes to the winners.
