PURWOKERTO, Central Java (Jakarta Post): The Banyumas Cultural Agency on Sunday hosted an arts festival aimed at preserving local traditions.
At least 54 troupes from Banyumas performed the traditional dances Ebeg and Lengger in a competition.
"The festival is aimed at protecting rare traditional art forms in our regency. The winners of the festival will be invited to perform at the Baturraden resort area every weekend," said the head of the cultural agency, Edy Siswanto.
He said not all of the traditional art groups in the regency took part in the festival.
