Prince Akishino visits Sri Sultan at Yogyakarta palace

Yogyakarta (ANTARA News) - Visiting Japanese Prince Akishino met with the King of the Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Palace, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono (HB) X, during dinner at the palace on Tuesday night.

Prince Akishino and his consort Princess Kiko stayed at the palace for about two hours from 6.45 p.m. West Indonesia Time.

Earlier upon the couple`s arrival at the palace, they were received by the palace honor guard and greeted by Sri Sultan HB X`s younger brothers KGPH Hadiwinoto and GBPH Prabukusomo along with their wives.

The couple during the visit was in the company of Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Ebihara and his Indonesian counterpart to Japan Yusuf Anwar.

Following the official reception, in the company of the Sultan and his consort GKR Hemas the Japanese prince and princess were escorted to a special hall where ancient objects were on display.

Later Sultan and his high guests enjoyed traditional cultural and art performances, to observe a palace dance, the Golek Menak Rengganis Widaninggar, created by the now late Sri Sultan HB IX, followed by a dinner.

After ushering his guests to the exit of the palace, Sultan HB X said the two sides had discussed mainly cultural matters, and the Japanese prince appeared to have a keen interest in Javanese culture and philosophy.

"He also liked the chickens and birds of the palace," Sri Sultan HB X said.

On the occasion the Sultan said he planned to visit Japan in May on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Yogyakarta-Kyoto sister city relations.
