Jakarta (ANTARA News) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on behalf of the state and nation conferred the title of "national hero" and Mahaputera Adipradana medals on three long deceased figures - former prime minister Dr Mohammad Natsir, former Independence Preparatory Committee member KH Abdul Halim and former Surabaya independence fighter Soetomo (popularly known as Bung Tomo).
The conferment ceremony took place at the State Palace here Friday.
At the ceremony, the president also presented a Mahaputera Utama medal to Petta Lolo La Sinran, a former freedom fighter in South Sulawesi, and Parama Dharma Budaya medals to playwright and film director Wahyu Sihombing and writer Marah Rusli.
The recipients of the state awards and medals were at the ceremony represented by their next of kin as they had all passed away.
Present on the occasion were First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, state institution officials, cabinet ministers, the chiefs of the National Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police.
