President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono meets former Japanese prime minister Yasuo Fukuda at the opening day of the Indonesia-Japan Expo at the Jakarta International Expo Saturday morning.
Fukuda, who served as Japanese Prime Minister from 2007 to 2008, is on a three-day visit to the country.
The Indonesia - Japan Expo, jointly sponsored by the two countries' leading newspapers Kompas and Nikkei, is held in commemorating the 50th year anniversary of bilateral ties.
According to Kompas.com, appart from an exhibition of various goods ranging from heavy machinery, soybean cakes to traditional batik wear, the Indonesia - Japan Expo will also be hosting a symposium and a range of other arts and cultural events.
"Trade expo is the main course of the event, but there will also be cultural and musical performances," Kompas Gramedia spokesman Nugroho Yudho said.
The expo will run from Nov. 1 to 9.
