TEMPO Interactive, Timika:The conflict between residents of Kwamki Lama in Timika, Papua, happened again on Wednesday. Following the morning conflict, two people were hit by arrows.
The first conflict began at 05.00 am Papua time, followed by another at 08.50 am. According to an unofficial source, 31 people have been injured so far.
At this writing, the second conflict was taking place. The residents brought in hundreds additional fighters from other areas.
Yoel Yolemal, a local leader, said on Wednesday that the senior residents did not want the war. “But the younger generation likes to have wars, so this is a difficult problem,” he said.
According to Yoel, the provincial government must immediately intervene and not remain idle. Meanwhile, Mimika Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) member, Karel Gwijangge, call all concerned not to provide logistic support to the warring parties.
“We will help them when they are ready for a truce,” Karel said.
