An advance team met has visited US President Barack Obama's former elementary school in Menteng in order to prepare for Obama's expected arrival in March.
The 30-person team included White House staffers and representatives from the US Embassy. They met with officials at the SDN 01 Menteng school and the chairman of its alumni association, Hiramsyah S Thaib.
“We had two meetings today, an internal meeting with school officials and a meeting with the US Embassy team,” Hiramsyah told detik.com on Thursday.
The US team inspected the school and took photographs.. Hiramsyah said the school is doing its best to welcome its most famous alumni, but denied rumors that it is planning a major renovation.
“We hope Obama's visit will go well and we will try to be a good host because the world will be watching,” he said.
Obama attended the school during part of the four years he spent in Jakarta with his mother and Indonesian stepfather.
