The Jakarta Post website (www.thejakartapost.com) ranks 76th in the world and 25th in Asia in the latest survey conducted by the 4 International Media & Newspapers (www.4imn.com), an international directory and search engine focusing on worldwide newspapers.
The Post trails fellow Southeast Asian newspapers Tuoi Tre from Vietnam and four Malaysian dailies The Star, Utusan Malaysia, Berita Harian and Harian Metro. Tuoi Tre, a Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth-affiliated newspaper, is rated 34th, the highest in Southeast Asia in a field of 200 dailies surveyed globally.
The top 10 sites are The New York Times, the Gardian of UK, the People's Daily of China, USA Today, the El Mundo of Spain, the Independent of UK, China Daily, the International Herald Tribune, the Daily Telegraph and the Wall Street Journal.
The ranking is based upon an algorithm including three unbiased and independent web metrics extracted from three different search engines: Google Page Rank, Yahoo Inbound Links and Alexa Traffic Ranking. The ranking, updated every six months, provides an approximate popularity ranking based on the popularity of the newspapers’ websites.
Leading daily Kompas (www.kompas.com) is the other Indonesian newspaper which makes it into the top 200. It ranks 106th.
Based in Australia and established in 2005, 4imn.com is an international media directory which includes about 7,000 newspapers ranked by web popularity.
