Tempo Interactive, Tuesday, 23 March, 2010 | 15:36 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, SURAKARTA: Five British designers are interested in batik production in Surakarta.

One of the group’s assistants, Gusni Puspita Sari, said that they will collaborate with the batik craftsmen.

Susi Henson, one of the designers, said she was very interested in Surakarta’s batik, especially its patterns.

“We don’t have it in Britain,” she said.

Meanwhile, Imran Amed, a fashion consultant, said he was interested in the way they sew and produce batik.

Surakarta Mayor Joko Widodo said he hoped lucrative collaborations could be established between the British designers and Surakarta batik craftsmen.

“The final result will be that the craftsmen can export batik to Britain or transfer knowledge to improve batik.”
