Indonesia, Singapore agree to showcase musical talents

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA News) - The Indonesian and Singaporean governments have agreed to showcase musical talents from both countries and strengthen people-to-people exchanges, Head of the working group on broadcasting of the first Information and Communication Joint Committee (ICJC) meeting, Subagio said here Friday.

Subagio said when reading out the agreed minutes of the ICJC meeting, the Ministry of Information and Communcation and the Arts (MICA) of Singapore agreed to encourage the media industry in Singapore to actualize the exchange program with their Indonesian counterpart.

According to Subagio who is Director of Government Communication Institutions at the Ministry of Communications, Information and Telecommunications (MCIT), MICA had proposed that MCIT and MICA undertake a music variety co-production program to showcase musical talents from Indonesia and Singapore.

The musical co-production could be done annually and would be a good platform for political leaders of Singapore and Indonesia to underscore the close bilateral ties, he said.

The matter of cooperation to showcase musical talents was among the points agreed on at the ICJC meeting, including cooperation on broadcasting content exchange, news exchange by sending news via electronic mail, sharing experiences regarding the process of government information management and the use of media platforms.

The two delegations also agreed on the programs of journalist and media expert exchanges, internship programs for media people.

On the occasion, MICA said that there were many existing platforms for journalist and media expert exchanges, adding that these should be continued. Singaporean and Indonesian media counterparts agreed to further exchange information on currently available programs.

Meanwhile, MCIT presented the Status Report on the implementation of digital broadcasting, analog to digital migration, and convergence policies, regulations, and services in Indonesia.

For future meetings, MICA suggested that one topic for discussion could be policies and regulations regarding the internet and its implications on broadcasting. Indonesia welcomed Singapore`s suggestion and agreed to discuss these matters and noted that the matters would be discussed in detail at the next ICJC meeting.

The meeting agreed that it would be mutually beneficial for the ICJC Meeting to be held annually. The next ICJC Meeting in 2011 will be hosted by Singapore.

The minutes of the meeting were signed by Secretary General of Indonesia`s Communication and Information Ministry Basuki Yusuf Iskandar and Permanent Secretary of Singapore`s Ministry of Information, Communicartions and the Arts Chan Yeng Kit in Bali on April 9, 2010.

A similar meeting between the Indonesian and Malaysian governments would also be held in Kuala Lumpur on May 5, 2010.
