Bandung, West Java (ANTARA News) - Religious leaders in West Java declared peace here on Monday following violence triggered by religious issues in the country recently.
The declaration was read out directly by the chairman of the West Java chapter of the Indonesian Council of Ulemas, KH Hafidz Utsman, before hundreds of community members from different religions attending the event.
In the declaration they expressed concern over the conflict between Ahmadiyah Islamic sect members and a mob in Cikeusik, Pandeglang, Banten, recently.
They also expressed determination to build inter-religious harmony especially in West Java and settle any inter-religious problem through a dialog.
They said they would coordinate and report immediately in case a clash happened to the security authorities.
Those witnessing the event were West Java governor Ahmad Heryawan, the region`s Siliwangi Military Command chief Major General Moeldoko, West Java police chief Inspector General Suparni Parto, chairman of the regional legislative assembly, Irfan Suryanagara, Bishop of Bandung Mgr Ignatius Suharya, the chief of the West Java regional chapter of the Indonesian Communion of Churches, Rev. Krisna Ludya, the chief of the West Java chapter of Budhist Association Walubi, Handoyo Oyong and the chief of the West Java chapter of Matakin (the Supreme Council for Confucian Religion in Indonesia), Bambang Sukoco as well as district heads and city mayors from across the province.
