Norman, as he is popularly known, was a First Brig. of the Mobile Brigade
(Brimob) based in Gorontalo, northern Sulawesi. He tendered his resignation in
September, but police rejected the application.
Norman shot
to fame after a video of him dancing to Indian hit song ‘Chaiya Chaiya’ went
viral on the Internet.
He was also
in the headlines when a group of police officers interrupted the filming of a
video for his new song, “Cinta Gila” (“Crazy Love”) in Northern Sulawesi.
Police said Norman, who was on Idul Fitri leave, had not secured his superior’s
permission to shoot the video.
Prior to
that, he was forced to cancel appearance on a popular television talk show
minutes before the taping after 20 officers stormed into the station and picked
him up. Again, the police said that the action was taken because Norman had not
secured permission for the appearance.
National
Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo said on Monday that the police would only
accept its members developing their talent when it was work related.
