Jakarta Globe, Press Release, Mar 16, 2015
From the
past few years, Korea has been regarded one of the most popular tourist
destination in Asia, besides Singapore and Malaysia.
According
to OH Hyonjae, Director of the Korean Tourism Organisation (KTO) for Jakarta
Office, in 2014, there were approximately 208,329 Indonesian tourists who
visited Korea, which increased 10,1% compare in 2013, (189,189 Indonesian
tourists). It cannot be inferred that Korea has been successfully strengthening
it’s tourism potentials throughout the year despite of the other negative year-on-year
growth faced by other countries.
From the
Ministry of Tourism Indonesia website, it is shown that the number Indonesian
tourist who went overseas in 2014 reached 7,899,069 people, which decreased (-)
0,93% compared with the number in 2013.
While there
is a downturn in the overall Indonesia’s outbound market, the tourism industry
in Korea continually shows a tremendous growth. This is due to the strong hype
of K-Pop culture as well as the opening of the KTO Jakarta since 2011 that
extensively market and promote Korean pop culture within the Indonesian
society.
