Jakarta.
More than 4,000 police officers will be deployed around Jakarta to secure the
2015 Asian-African Conference.
This year
marks the 60th anniversary of the first Asian-African Conference, which set out
to promote economic and cultural cooperation among the newly independent
countries of the two continents.
Police, who
are not taking any shortcuts to secure the historic event, will launch
Operation Cipta Kondisi to prevent any public disturbance or terrorist acts.
“All the
police officers have to work during the operation, especially at times when
public disturbance tends to happen,” said Insp. Gen. Unggung Cahyono, chief of
Jakarta Police, on Wednesday.
“We will
conduct raids for explosives, guns, bladed weapons, and drugs at certain
times.”
State
intelligence agents will also work with police.
The
Asia-Africa Conference will be held from April 19 to 24 in Jakarta and Bandung.
Delegates from 109 Asian and African countries, as well as 16 observer
countries and 25 international organizations have been invited to the event.
