TEMPO Interactive, Yogyakarta: Dormitories in Yogyakarta for students from various regions in Indonesia will function as pavilions to project their respective region. The area will serve as an information, cultural, and tourism center of each region.
“The Yogyakarta administration has conveyed a message to the dormitory managers to immediately prepare these pavilions,” Yogyakarta deputy mayor Haryadi Suyuti said yesterday.
The idea to create pavilions in the dormitories started when outer-island students living in dormitories felt excluded. With these pavilions, dormitories will hopefully be more open and no longer exclusive, improving relations between students and local residents.
There are 70 dormitories in Yogyakarta accommodating students from 25 cities and provinces throughout the country. According to Haryadi, the grand opening of these pavilions is scheduled to take place on October 28, coinciding with the Youth Pledge Day.
