"The Recalibration of Awareness – Apr 20/21, 2012 (Kryon channeled by Lee Carroll) (Subjects: Old Energy, Recalibration Lectures, God / Creator, Religions/Spiritual systems (Catholic Church, Priests/Nun’s, Worship, John Paul Pope, Women in the Church otherwise church will go, Current Pope won’t do it), Middle East, Jews, Governments will change (Internet, Media, Democracies, Dictators, North Korea, Nations voted at once), Integrity (Businesses, Tobacco Companies, Bankers/ Financial Institutes, Pharmaceutical company to collapse), Illuminati (Started in Greece, with Shipping, Financial markets, Stock markets, Pharmaceutical money (fund to build Africa, to develop)), Shift of Human Consciousness, (Old) Souls, Women, Masters to/already come back, Global Unity.... etc.) - (Text version)

… The Shift in Human Nature

You're starting to see integrity change. Awareness recalibrates integrity, and the Human Being who would sit there and take advantage of another Human Being in an old energy would never do it in a new energy. The reason? It will become intuitive, so this is a shift in Human Nature as well, for in the past you have assumed that people take advantage of people first and integrity comes later. That's just ordinary Human nature.

In the past, Human nature expressed within governments worked like this: If you were stronger than the other one, you simply conquered them. If you were strong, it was an invitation to conquer. If you were weak, it was an invitation to be conquered. No one even thought about it. It was the way of things. The bigger you could have your armies, the better they would do when you sent them out to conquer. That's not how you think today. Did you notice?

Any country that thinks this way today will not survive, for humanity has discovered that the world goes far better by putting things together instead of tearing them apart. The new energy puts the weak and strong together in ways that make sense and that have integrity. Take a look at what happened to some of the businesses in this great land (USA). Up to 30 years ago, when you started realizing some of them didn't have integrity, you eliminated them. What happened to the tobacco companies when you realized they were knowingly addicting your children? Today, they still sell their products to less-aware countries, but that will also change.

What did you do a few years ago when you realized that your bankers were actually selling you homes that they knew you couldn't pay for later? They were walking away, smiling greedily, not thinking about the heartbreak that was to follow when a life's dream would be lost. Dear American, you are in a recession. However, this is like when you prune a tree and cut back the branches. When the tree grows back, you've got control and the branches will grow bigger and stronger than they were before, without the greed factor. Then, if you don't like the way it grows back, you'll prune it again! I tell you this because awareness is now in control of big money. It's right before your eyes, what you're doing. But fear often rules. …

Cars, houses, heroes: North Koreans win hearts at Asian Games

North Korea's athletes are not only scooping record numbers of medals at the Asian Games, they are winning hearts with an unprecedented charm offensive and will go home as heroes -- rewarded with new cars and houses.

At the weightlifting competition which concluded Monday with an eighth gold -- smashing North Korea's previous best of four in 2014 -- the team's attitude has been the polar opposite from Incheon four years ago.

There, every medallist trotted out a well-worn script of thanking leader Kim Jong Un for his inspiration to reporters before being whisked away.

But over eight days at the Jakarta International Expo their athletes have gone off-piste to talk frankly about their nerves, fears, emotions and life back home while mingling freely with spectators and reporters.

They even were joined by the South Korean weightlifting team to celebrate the end of the competition with an unprecedented joint team photo.

"I think we have shown the world that the people of Korea are the greatest as one," +75kg winner Kim Kuk Hyang told AFP after posing with her South Korean counterparts, an astonishing statement from a North Korean given that the two countries have technically remained at war for the past 65 years.

Then she was off to grab tiny 4ft 7in (140cm) Ri Song Gum, the 48kg class gold medallist, and carry her aloft around the stage with the pair laughing, joking and punching the air.

Selfies and smiles

Hardly a single request for a selfie by a fan or Games volunteer has been turned down -- most have been accommodated with huge smiles. At the 2014 Asian Games none was entertained.

The shackles are off, athletes are revelling and happy to reveal their personal stories for the first time.

Om Yun Chol even thanked South Koreans for helping him to win 56kg men's gold.

"The passionate support from the South Korean cheerleading squad is my source of great strength," he said while posing for pictures.

Was this really the same man who four years earlier had thanked leader Kim for teaching him how to "crack a rock with an egg"?

O Kang Chol cried buckets for his dead mother after his maiden gold medal in the men's 69kg.

It was a touching moment as he mourned his mum who passed away earlier this year and whose ambition had been to see him win a first title.

"I will visit mother's grave and give her this gold medal," he told reporters, still weeping and unabashed at baring his grief -- a huge contrast to the robotic strongmen and women paraded at previous championships.

It is an eye-opening change, which appears to have gone hand-in-hand with the thawing of global diplomatic relations culminating in the historic summit between Kim and US President Donald Trump in Singapore in June.

South Korean observers have been taken aback. "We have never see the North Koreans like this," Yonhap news agency reporter Joo Kyung-don told AFP.

The new open attitude appears to have been encouraged right from the top.

North Korean Sports Minister Kim Il Guk, one of Kim Jong Un's right-hand men, was in attendance Sunday and giving his blessing to team officials spilling the beans on previously taboo topics.

'They are not scary'

"The weightlifting champions who raise the country's honour will be rewarded with a new house and a new car," head coach Kim Kwang Dok told AFP, for the first time confirming something that had long been suspected in the secretive nation -- that sporting glory is a way out of grinding poverty.

"Our athletes will get national hero status once they return and will get big attention from our people. Everyone will be proud."

It is not just at the weightlifting arena that heads have been turning and relationships opening up.

The two Koreas marched together at the opening ceremony, fielded a joint team in women's basketball and so far have won a historic gold and two bronzes in dragon boating.

"They are not scary or anything like portrayed on the internet," South Korea basketball player Kim Han-byul said. "It's been the normal girl talk with them."

Weightlifting sisters Rim Un Sim and Rim Jong Sim tenderly cried tears of joy at each other's success as they pulled off a golden double and said they couldn't wait to get home to show off their medals to their family.

Rim Jong Sim was one who did remember, albeit briefly, to thank Kim Jong Un. "This gold medal isn't for me, but it's for my country and our supreme leader," she said.

But such expressions were few and far between and her sister had soon changed the subject.

"I can't describe how happy I am," Rim Un Sim said. "We competed together and won medals at the university championship last year, but this is the Asian Games."

"The second thing I told you about was this: There's a 50% chance that the new leader of North Korea, the son, would not follow in the footsteps of his father. I told you there was a 50% chance of this. Then I started itemizing the reasoning why this might make sense, especially to the Korean leader. I then told you it might take a long time if it manifested at all. I told you the problems would be within the old advisors for his father's family. He had to tread slowly and lightly to do something against all odds. This will all come out someday because of the handshake.

Here was the potential or the prediction of what might happen: Those who had the machine guns in the DM zone would drop them, because this North Korean leader would unify the two Koreas. There would be no nuclear weapons in his land and there would be the beginning of abundance for his people. His people and the world would then give him something he had always wanted and was imbued with from birth - the desire for accolades and more accolades. Like his father before him, he was the premier egotist, and this would be the unexpected way to create a world at his feet. That's what I said. Then I said, "Watch for it, but don't be anxious." I talked about that in 2013, and five more times since then. In August 2017, I itemized my advice for him, point by point. The advice that I gave followed the potentials that were there and those were the very points in the handshake this week in June of 2018.

Now, you tell me what happened. "Kryon, you're going to be famous because you predicted these things!" Dear ones, all I did was look into a field that is being shown to you today [by the scientists at the conference]. And all I did was to show you the potentials that were already there. In other words, he was thinking about these things and talking to others behind the scenes about them. No matter what his advisors told him right up to the brink of sending his missiles, he was always thinking that there might be another way that would gain him ultimate fame. Dear ones, this has been in progress since his father died! Therefore, it was in the field, but not a given, dear ones - a potential.

Next, I want to show you the bias of humanity at this time, something I have spoken of many times. This potential of the handshake is amazing, and it has started to be manifested. What should the reaction be to something that deflects the potential of war, or saves thousands lives? Instead of joy or amazement or celebration, Humans go for the reverse: It can't happen. It's a trick. It's a bad deal.

I want you to start reading the reactions of the press. I want you to read the reactions even from the South Koreans. They said, "Well, we know North Koreans, and that's never going to happen. We know who they are, and we know their nature. Because in the past, they never performed what they said they would. So it's a joke." That is a quote from a South Korean. "It's a joke."

What happened to this comment? "Isn't this a beautiful potential? Look at this amazing thing - against all odds!" Now, your free press, the reporting segment of our culture, has decided not only to report it, but to let you know it's probably not going to happen! They say: "Nay. Maybe yes, maybe no. We'll see. We expect the worse." And this continues and continues, and all it shows you is the monstrous bias of the dark side that wants to pull anything good back to what the past gave to you."

Two Koreas to form joint table tennis team for Korea Open

Yahoo - AFP,15 July 2018

Table tennis players from the two Koreas also formed a joint team at this year's
championships in Sweden

The two Koreas will form joint table tennis teams for the 2018 Korea Open next week, a report said Sunday, the latest sign of thawing ties between the neighbours.

North and South Korea will field joint teams in the men's and women's doubles as well as the mixed doubles in the tournament to be held in the South's city of Daejeon from Tuesday to Sunday, Yonhap news agency said.

It cited an unnamed official at the Korea Table Tennis Association.

South Korean TV footage showed North Korean athletes and delegates arriving at Seoul's Incheon International Airport Sunday via a flight through Beijing.

Eight female and eight male athletes from North Korea -- including Kim Song I, a bronze medalist at women's singles at the 2016 Rio Summer Games -- will form the joint teams with the South's players, Yonhap said.

It will be the third time that table tennis players from the two Koreas form a joint team following the 1991 world championships in Japan and this year's championships in Sweden.

The joint team in 1991 shocked the world by defeating defending champion China to win gold in the women's team event. This year's joint team won bronze in the women's team event in Sweden.

The Korea Table Tennis Association could not be immediately reached for comment.

The two countries are technically still at war after the 1950-53 Korean War ended with an armistice instead of a peace treaty, but sporting cooperation helped spark an ongoing diplomatic thaw after the North agreed to participate in the Winter Olympics held in February in the South.

The diplomatic detente triggered a rapid improvement in relations between Pyongyang and both Seoul and Washington, culminating in last month's summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and US President Donald Trump in Singapore.

A group of South Korean basketball players visited the North earlier this month to hold friendly basketball matches with its athletes.

The two Koreas also recently announced they would field joint teams in three sports -- canoeing, rowing and women's basketball -- at next month's Asian Games to be held in Indonesia.

Asian Games could have 7 joint Korean teams: Seoul official

Seoul (AFP) - Seven South Korean sports associations are considering forming joint teams with North Korea for this year's Asian Games in Indonesia, an official told AFP Monday - but reports said football will not be joining them.

At their groundbreaking summit on Friday, the latest step in a rapidly moving diplomatic sequence, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and the South's president Moon Jae-in agreed to show solidarity by "jointly participating in international sports events such as the 2018 Asian Games".

The phrasing left open whether it was a reference to unified teams, or marching together at opening ceremonies, as they have done at several past Olympics, including this year's Winter Games in Pyeongchang in the South.

But a spokeswoman for the South's national Olympic committee told AFP that the country's governing bodies for "basketball, judo, canoe, gymnastics, table tennis, rowing and soft tennis have expressed interest".

No details had been discussed yet, she added.

Seoul's unification ministry declined to comment on the issue but said the two sides will soon hold a working-level meeting which may include discussions on joint teams at the Asian Games.

Some sports bodies are already pushing ahead, proposing their own plans for the Asian Games, which will take place in Jakarta and Palembang from August 18 to September 2.

The Korean Canoe Federation said Monday a joint team for the dragon boat race -- one of three canoe disciplines at the event -- will be a good idea since neither Korea has a national team for it.

"Even if we form a joint team, it won't affect any existing athletes," the group said in a statement.

The joint teams could hold open practice sessions on the Han river in Seoul as well as the Taedong river in Pyongyang, it added.

Final whistle

But the South's football association declined the idea, Yonhap news agency reported, saying the move could require unwanted sacrifices from its players.

In South Korea, male athletes who win gold at the Asian Games or any Olympic medal are exempted from the country's mandatory two-year military service.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min could be among the players seeking the Asian Games title to enable him to extend his career in Europe without interruptions.

Son withdrew from consideration for the South Korean team for London 2012 -- when the side finished third, earnings its members the exemption -- to concentrate on his club activities with Hamburg SV.

When a joint women's ice hockey team was first mooted for the Winter Olympics it provoked a backlash in the South, on the grounds that Seoul was depriving its own athletes of the chance to compete on the Olympic stage.

Ultimately the sight of North and South Korean skaters wearing the same jersey and passing the puck to each other drew emotive responses from spectators and quickly became an Olympic favourite, despite the team being thrashed in all five of their matches.

The rapprochement on the peninsula was triggered by the Games, to which the North's Kim sent athletes, cheerleaders and his sister as an envoy.

Friday's historic meeting saw Kim and Moon agree to pursue the complete denuclearisation of the peninsula and to improve inter-Korean relations.

Seoul's defence ministry said Monday it will start removing propaganda loudspeakers along the border with the North on Tuesday.

Jakarta. North Korea has lodged a diplomatic protest with the Indonesian government over a South Korean symposium on human rights in the secretive dictatorship held in a Jakarta hotel on Tuesday.

North Korea’s ambassador to Indonesia, Ri Jong Ryul, said he had filed a protest with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the State Palace as well as Joko Widodo’s political party and even Interpol.

“Indonesia and North Korea have been very close so far, please stop such symposiums that denounce our country. We respect the dignity and sovereignty of other countries,” Ri said in Jakarta on Wednesday, as quoted by Indonesian news portal Tempo.co.

The international symposium hosted by the South Korean Human Rights Commission, the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) and the Asean Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), was held in the Sultan hotel on Tuesday.

The symposium was attended by the South Korean ambassador to Indonesia, Cho Tai-young.

Ri said he has filed a protest before the event began.

“However, prior to the symposium commencing at 11 a.m [the government of Indonesia] had not responded to our diplomatic note,” Ri said.

Ri said that a repeat of such an event could damage bilateral ties between Indonesia and North Korea, adding that Tuesday’s event promoted rumors and hatred against North Korea.

Rafendi Djamin of AICHR said he had been informed of North Korean’s objection and that a North Korean diplomat came to the symposium to read a protest statement in front of journalists covering the event.

“I heard North Korea was disappointed they were not invited to this event,” Rafendi said.

Four Countries Reportedly Set to Join List of Visa-Free Travel to Indonesia

Jakarta. Indonesia plans to offer visa-free travel to visitors from China, Japan, Russia and South Korea as a tactic to boost tourist numbers, a report said on Wednesday.

Indroyono Soesilo, the coordinating minister for maritime affairs, told Tempo. co that the four countries would join the existing 19 nations whose citizens can enter Indonesia without a visa.

Indonesia recorded 8.8 million foreign tourists in 2013, a 10 percent rise on the 8 million visitors in 2012.

In 2013 there were 747,921 tourists from China, or 8.5 percent of the total.

Indonesia’s neighbors have proved a more attractive place to visit over the years, due to better marketing and infrastructure and fewer visa restrictions. Malaysia recorded 25 million foreign tourists last year, helped in part by offering visa-free travel for 90 days to citizens of many countries.

Indroyono is also keen to provide incentives for foreign cruise vessels to dock in Indonesia. Seven new docks are in the works, the minister said.

“For example, we will give foreign cruises and yachts permission to park at the dock for 6 months,” Indroyono said.

US Ambassador Says Kim Jong-un Visit to Bandung a Matter for Indonesia

Jakarta. As Indonesia prepares to welcome up to 109 heads of state to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Bandung Conference in April, the US ambassador to Jakarta advised a cautious approach to one name on the list — North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The original Asia-Africa Conference was held in Jakarta and Bandung in April, 1955. It was attended by 25 countries and was an important precursor to the Non-Aligned Movement. The government has invited 109 head of states to attend the 60th commemoration of the event in Bandung and Jakarta.

“It’s a decision that Indonesia has to make,” US Ambassador Robert Blake said, referring to the invitation extended to Kim. “However, Indonesia should be cautious with the world view on the sanctioned country. Of course, this will be a consideration for The Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”

Blake said the US embassy had yet to receive official notice of Kim’s plans to attended the April event. South Korean news agency Yonhap announced Kim’s plans to attend.

Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha said the North Korean leader had yet to send his RSVP.

Bandung Mayor Ridwan Kamil was enjoying the prospect of Bandung in the spotlight.

“All eyes will be on Bandung on April 24, especially if the North Korean leader is coming” Ridwan said. “It’s his right [to visit Bandung]. He is invited. We invited his country. Whether the country is bad is not a criteria to receive an invitation.”

Jakarta. Indonesian swimmer Mulyana on Thursday broke the world record in the men’s 50 meters butterfly S4 event at the Asian Para Games.

Mulyana posted a record 39.44 seconds on the distance to win a gold medal at the games in Incheon, South Korea. He was 1.04 second faster than Slovenian Darko Duric at the London Paralympics in 2012.

The S4 category is for swimmers with coordination problems affecting all limbs but predominantly in the legs.

Thailand’s Somchai Doungkaew took second place with a time of 46.41 and third place was for China’s Jin Zhipeng (59.75).

Indonesian Steven Sualang Tangkilisan won silver in the men’s 100 meter backstroke S10 (below the elbow or below the knee amputees). He finished in 1 minute and 9.94 seconds. China’s Lin Furong took first place with 1:08.74 and Fraidden Dawan of Malaysia came in third with 1:10.63.

In the women’s -79kg powerlifting, paralympian Ni Nengah Widiasih lifted a total of 90 kilograms to bag a bronze. Taiwan’s Lin Tzu-Hui topped the standing by posting a total of 103kg to win gold. Jordanian Tharwh Tayseer Hamdan Alhajaj finished second with 108kg.

Indonesia has so far collected nine gold medals, nine silver, and 17 bronzes at this year’s Asian Para Games.

Jakarta. President-elect Joko Widodo held two separate meetings on Monday with senior officials from both North and South Korea to discuss Indonesia’s bilateral ties with the two countries ahead of him assuming the office of president in October.

“North Korean foreign minister, Ri Su-yong, congratulated me for winning the presidential election, it was a direct message from Kim Jong-un,” Joko said on Monday at City Hall.

Ri praised the Jakarta governor, calling him a humble man with an impressive track record as an administrator. Pyongyang had praise for Joko’s efforts to raise living standards, the foreign minster said.

“I hope he can work even harder for his people,” Ri added.

The North Korean minister on Wednesday also met with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and his Indonesian counterpart, Marty Natalegawa.

After meeting Joko, Ri said he hoped for a deepening of bilateral ties between Pyongyang and Jakarta.

“I expect major successes in public services and the country’s development,” he added.

Earlier in the day Joko also met with the South Korean ambassador to Indonesia, Cho Tae-young.

“The discussion was mostly about the economy and culture,” Joko said, adding that Cho had invited him to Korea for a state visit after his October inauguration.

Psy's 'Gangnam Style' sets YouTube record for 2 bn views

Yahoo – AFP, 31 May 2014

South Korea's Psy attends the premiere of "RED 2" at Westwood
Village in Los Angeles, on July 11, 2013

South Korean pop phenomenon Psy galloped into the record books Saturday as his "Gangnam Style" mega hit smashed through the two-billion mark on YouTube.

It was a first at YouTube, where "Baby" by Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber in February became the only other video in the billion-view club.

"Gangnam Style" at the OfficialPsy channel has now had nearly twice the amount of viewers, according to figures from the northern California-based YouTube.

The video became a global sensation and fueled a South Korean "K-Pop" trend after it was uploaded to YouTube in July 2012.

"Two billion views; they are very honorable and very burdensome numbers," Psy said in a statement YouTube shared with AFP on Friday.

"With the appreciation, I will come back soon with more joyful contents!"

His follow-up song "Gentleman" set the record for the most YouTube views in a single day -- 38 million on April 14, 2013.

Psy's horse-riding-style dance moves in "Gangnam Style" have been parodied and mimicked in myriad videos uploaded to YouTube in various languages.

The "Gangnam" in the song's title refers to Seoul's wealthiest residential and shopping district, lined with luxury boutiques, top-end bars and restaurants frequented by celebrities.

Psy sings about being the "guy who downs boiling coffee in one shot" and who "goes completely crazy when the right time comes."

The video, which satirizes the area's self-importance and ostentatious wealth, has Psy breezing through a world of speed boats, yoga classes and exclusive clubs while performing an eccentric horse-riding dance.

Only three percent of "Gangnam Style" views at YouTube have been from inside South Korea.

A border city in northeastern China has launched bicycle tours to neighboring North Korea.

Thirty-five Chinese tourists joined the first self-drive travel by bicycle from Tumen city in Jilin province to North Korea's Namyang city on Friday, said organizers. The tourists spent three hours across the border.

The bicycle tour, open to tourists from China, is inexpensive and only needs simple procedures, said an official of the Tumen Tourism Bureau. He said the route is expected to attract more tourists to the country.

Excursions by train from Tumen to North Korea's Chilbosan resumed on Wednesday. The tourist train was launched in April 2012, but was later suspended. Tumen also has highway and railway services to North Korea.

Seoul. North Korea will participate in all events at the Asian Games to be hosted in South Korea’s western port city of Incheon later this year, reports said Monday.

North Korean officials told South Korean reporters that preparations are under way to compete in all events at the so-called Asiad games, according to pooled media reports from the current reunion of families divided by the Korean War.

South Korea has invited North Korea to participate in the games, which will run from September 19 to October 4, through the Olympic Council of Asia, a body that governs all sports in Asia.

But there has been no formal confirmation of participation yet from North Korea’s rulers.

The North boycotted the 1988 Olympics hosted by Seoul but sent athletes and cheerleaders for the 2002 Asian Games in South Korea’s southern port city of Busan.

The first family reunion for more than three years is under way at a mountain resort in North Korea, raising hopes of greater North-South cooperation.

North Korea had originally threatened to cancel if the South and the United States pushed ahead with annual joint military drills that began on Monday.

In an apparent goodwill gesture, Seoul last week approved the shipment by two private aid groups for close to $1.0 million worth of tuberculosis medicine and powdered milk to North Korea.

On Monday South Korea offered to send vaccine and medical equipment to help contain an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the North.

The offer came days after the North confirmed cases of the highly contagious livestock disease at a pig farm in a suburb of Pyongyang.

South Korea Introduces ‘Gangnam Style’ Tourist Police

Seoul. South Korea unveiled its new “tourist police” force Wednesday, with snappy uniforms from rapper Psy’s costume designer and a “Gangnam Style” launch in central Seoul.

Around 100 young policemen and women make up the first batch of the new force — formed to protect tourists from being ripped off during their stay in the South Korean capital.

The officers were handpicked for their linguistic skills, and can speak a range of languages including English, Japanese and Mandarin.

“Those who think they were overcharged by taxi drivers or street food vendors can come and talk to us. We will help settle the problem,” English-speaking recruit Park Jae-Hyoung told AFP.

Each officer wears a badge denoting his language expertise on a special dark-blue uniform created by one of the costume designers for the “Gangnam Style” star Psy.

The singer’s global hit was played at Wednesday’s launch event, with a police drill unit performing his signature horse-riding dance.

“The tourist police wasn’t created because this country is unsafe,” Lee Charm, president of the Korea Tourism Organization told the new recruits.

“You are ambassadors who promote how safe this country is,” he said. “From now on, you guys will be very busy having pictures taken with tourists.”

The police are unarmed and are meant to summon regular officers in the event of any serious crime.

The number of foreign travelers to South Korea has steadily grown over the years and topped 10 million for the first time in 2012, partly thanks to interest sparked by the global popularity of “Gangnam Style.”

The song, released a year ago, made Psy an international star, and is the most popular video of all time on YouTube with nearly 1.8 billion views.

Leaders from Asia-Pacific nations and territories have gathered on the Indonesian island of Bali to attend the APEC summit . Notable by his absence is US President Barack Obama.

The leaders from the 21 members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) were expected to discuss reducing trade and investment barriers and speeding up regional economic integration and infrastructure development.

Opening the summit, which is taking place under high security, Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on Monday called for closer cooperation in the region.

"We all feel the pain of the crisis," Yudhoyono said. "It is therefore important to develop closer cooperation towards accelerating economic growth and global recovery."

Among the leaders attending are Chinese President Xi Jinping, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and new Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott. Russian President Vladimir Putin was expected to arrive on Monday

Obama cancellation

However, US President Barack Obama, who had hoped to use the summit to iron out issues regarding the free-trade pact he is promoting, the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), cancelled his attendance at the summit because of the current US government shutdown over a Congress budget row. He is being represented at the summit by Secretary of State John Kerry.

Despite Obama's absence, twelve APEC members were expected to continue work on the pact, which the US president sees as underlining a US "pivot" towards Asia as a counterbalance to China's increased influence in the region.

The twelve members involved in the TPP talks on the sidelines of the APEC meeting are the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam, Chile, Canada, Mexico and Peru.

US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker told reporters in Bali on Sunday that delegates had reached agreement on several thorny issues in the proposed pact. The US hopes to secure a deal on the TPP by the end of the year.

In addition to the countries listed above, other APEC members include China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Russia, Chinese Taipei and Thailand.
