JAKARTA (Jakarta Post): Once again, The Jakarta Post has won the Adam Malik Award for its coverage of international news as well as matters related to Indonesian diplomacy during 2007.
The Post won the award in the Best Newspaper category.
In a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry building, Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda presented the award to the Post's chief editor, Endy M. Bayuni, on Tuesday.
In the magazine category, the Gatra weekly chief editor Budiono Kartohadiprodjo received the award, while the Metro TV channel, El-shinta radio station and state-owned Antara news agency Web site www.antara.co.id also took home prizes. Metro TV's senior producer Trianna and El-shinta's executive producer Vivi Trisnavia and Antara chief executive officer Ahmad Mukhlis Yusuf received the awards from Hassan.
In the category of best reporter, Suara Pembaruan's Elly Burhaini Faisal won the 2007 award.
"I am very happy to receive this honor," Elly told the Post.
The Foreign Ministry said the main criteria for the selection of 2007 winners was an accurate presentation of the facts, creating balanced and objective public opinion and educating the public in foreign policy matters.
It is not the first time the Post has won the Adam Malik Award, which takes its name from a former foreign minister who was also a journalist, taking home the honors in 2004 and 2005.
In 2006, the Post's reporter Abdul Khalik won the award for Best Journalist.
The ministry first presented the award to the national media in 2002.
