First Lady Ani Yudhoyono has ruled out following in the steps of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton by running for presidency after her husband’s term had finished.
Ani made the statement during a meeting with 69 students from Taruna Nusantara High School at the State Palace on Monday. During the question and answer session, a student named Airina asked her if she would ever run for presidency.
“Will you join the presidential race after Pak SBY’s term is over,” Airina asked.
“Where did you get that idea and why did you ask that question, my child?”Ani replied.
“Will you follow Hillary Clinton’s steps?” Airina asked again.
“It never crossed my mind to replace Pak SBY. I give full support for SBY to carry out his duties in the best possible way,” Ani answered.
Ani added that she was happy to see her husband carrying out his duties well. As the first lady, her job is to accompany and take care of her husband as well as be a good discussion partner for him, she said.
“But if you asked me if I would join the (presidential) race like Hillary, the answer is no,” she said.
