BHUBANESWAR: Innovation is the key to sustaining growth in the tourism sector, opined speakers at a tourism conference here on Thursday.
Inaugurating the meet titled ‘Innovation in tourism: competitiveness and sustainability,’ Governor M.C. Bhandare emphasised on exploiting modern day technology to bring out attractive packages.
He suggested introducing cruise liner packages from the State to countries like Indonesia and Thailand.
The Governor also laid stress on developing a concrete marketing strategy for promotion of tourist hotspots in Orissa and implementing it in right earnest.
Speaking on the occasion, Tourism Secretary Asit Tripathy said the need of the hour is to innovate product and services in keeping with the changing times and compete with other states like Kerala and Rajasthan in wooing tourists.
Steps should be initiated to promote tribal tourism and ecotourism to draw more tourists to Orissa, he added.
The three-day conference, organised by Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management is being attended by delegates from across the country and abroad.
The institute is run under the aegis of Ministry of Tourism.
