Businessman Arifin Panigoro on Saturday received an honorary doctorate from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), where he studied electric engineering in 1970s.
He got the honorary doctorate for his initiative in the development of oil and gas in the country and the business ethics he had excelled.
Arifin was the seventh people to receive honorary doctorate since ITB was established in 1920. Other recipients include founding president Soekarno, toll road architect Sedyatmo, J. Rooseno, Soetarjo Sigit, Ir Hartarto astrosonarto and Emil Salim.
In his speech, Arifin emphasized the need for this nation to develop entrepreneurship so that the nation can benefit from the new economic development. The entrepreneurs must be able to make uses of science and technology, he said.
“To excel in the world of new economy, the entrepreneurs must have ability to create added value and competitiveness,” he added. – JP
