Mount Ciremai, West Java, Indonesia, as seen from Cigugur village
Five climbers went missing on Friday while climbing Mount Ciremai, West Java, a search and rescue team said Sunday.
The missing climbers were identified as 22-year-old Muha, Nila (22), Budiman (23), Maskom (18) and Wahyu (17).
"Budiman sent a text message to his family saying his team had got lost on Mount Ciremai, was short of food, and that one of them was sick. But we don't know their exact location," Suhana, a SAR team member, said as quoted by kompas.com.
The SAR team had been searching around one kilometer north of the mountain peak, where the climbers reported their last position, but to no avail, he added.
Another SAR team member Cucu Supriatna said the five climbers lost their way as they did not take the official climbing routes of Linggarjati, Palutungan and Apuy.
