The chief
executive officer of the Internet giant posted a picture on Facebook of himself
sitting at the famous Buddhist shrine, explaining: “I just arrived in Indonesia
and hiked up Borobudur to watch the sunrise. Tomorrow for Internet.org I’m
looking forward to meeting with developers, operator partners and government
leaders in Jakarta.”
Internet.org
is a partnership of Facebook and five technology companies that aims to
increase Internet access in parts of the world that have remained largely
unconnected. One of the challenges in countries like Indonesia is how to use
data and networks more efficiently, which is one of the issues that will be
discussed at the meeting Zuckerberg attends on Monday.
President-Elect
Joko Widodo on Sunday also said he may be meeting with Zuckerberg on Monday.
“Tomorrow
[I will meet Zuckerberg],” Joko was quoted as saying by news portal Kompas.com,
disclosing no further details.
