Another person has died of injuries suffered in an accident on Sunday when a
tree collapsed on a group of people in Bogor’s famous Botanical Gardens.
Rizki, a
25-year-old visitor from Kebonpedes in Bogor, died due to excessive bleeding
from an injury on his head, said Yudha Wahyu Waspada, a spokesperson for Bogor
Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Hospital.
The death
toll from the incident is now five. A total of 25 people were injured when the
agathis tree collapsed about 10 a.m. on Sunday.
Rizki was
transported to the hospital in a critical condition shortly after the old tree
collapsed on Sunday morning, reportedly with a group of workers underneath it.
He died at 11 p.m. on Sunday.
Bogor
Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Hospital is still treating seven victims. Lack of
beds in the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) has forced two patients to be
transferred to other hospitals.
Didik
Widiatmoko, director of the Bogor Botanical Gardens Conservation Center, said
on Sunday he was coordinating with the center’s insurer, Jasa Raharja.
“All
[victims] have been treated and we have coordinated with PT Jasa Raharja. All
treatment will be concentrated in PMI Hospital in Bogor,” he said.
“We already
have the scheme for the treatment. We’ll see the development.”
The
87-hectare Bogor Botanical Gardens were established in the 19th century and
host a wide variety of plants and trees. The gardens are among
Indonesia’s prime tourist destinations.
