A partnership association of three mass media and four corporations will run a fun eco-festival this weekend to address the global warming issue with city residents.
The free-of-charge event, named the 2009 Green Festival will be jointly held by Kompas, MetroTV, Female Radio, consumer goods manufacturer PT Unilever Indonesia, state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina, electronic company PT Panasonic Gobel Indonesia, and Sinar Mas Group.
The festival will take place in Bung Karno Sports Complex's east parking lot in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Saturday and Sunday.
Chief organizer Nugroho Yudho of Kompas daily said the parking lot would be divided into four main areas to exhibit simulation of the global warming phenomenon, environmental workshops, music entertainment, and daily tips for individuals to reduce domestic carbon emission.
"We really hope this event would attract not only environmental activists but also families and individuals," Nugroho said, adding that the organizer had chosen "What have you done?" as the theme of the festival.
Last year, the festival successfully attracted 43,000 visitors, 70 percent of them were children.
