Denpasar (ANTARA News) - Indonesia is scheduled to host the Asian Beach Games (ABG) in popular island resort of Bali on 18-26 October next year, a spokesperson has said.
"Bali has a very representative beach that can be used as a venue for the international sport event," Bali Asian Beach Games Organizing Committee (BABGOC) executive director Indra Kartasasmita said in Sanur, Bali, on Saturday.
Sailing, surfing, paragliding are among beach sports that will be held during the nine-day ABG in 2008.
Indra said the sport branches might be held in different places in Bali. He said sailing could be held in Sanur beach, surfing in Kuta beach, and paragliding in Kutuh beach.
He, however, said the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) had the right to decide what place that was suitable for every sport branch.
Indra, who concurrently Indonesian Sports Committee (KONI) official, said OCA technical team would arrive in Bali next September to evaluate and decide location for the holding of the international sport event.
Meanwhile, Haiyang City mayor Zou Changqing welcomed the holding of the ABG.
The Chinese government would monitor the preparation for and the holding of the international event in Bali as the country would also host the similar event in 2012, said Zou who was here for an observation of the preparation for the international sport event.
