YOGYAKARTA: Centennial celebrations for celebrated painter Affandi will be held Saturday and Sunday in Yogyakarta and will include the grand opening of Affandi street and a shadow puppet performance at Sanata Dharma University.
Similar commemorations will be held throughout the year in Bali, Jakarta and Singapore.
"These commemorations celebrate the love of the big family at Affandi Museum for the arts, which belong to the entire nation and the world," said Helfi Dirix, the president of the event organizing committee.
Local and international artists will participate in the commemorations, which will include fine art exhibitions, dance, music and theater performances, traditional shows, workshops, seminars, public lectures and competitions.
Affandi was born in Cirebon, West Java, in May 1907 and passed away in Yogyakarta in May 1990. He is buried in the Affandi Museum complex in Yogyakarta.
